With your help, I believe I can see a little light at the end of the tunnel.

Hello, my name is Fred and I need your help. I’m an amiture photographer looking for better results.

The name of my project is “Light at the end of the Tunnel”, and this is “Bendalight Art”. They are not computer generated and no two are ever exactly the same. My hobbies are inventing, making things, and if possible producing an interesting video to post on YouTube. You can view them if you like under the name HydroFred.

Embrace of LightsEmbrace of Lights

Well, a couple of those videos got me really interested in photography. The video Light Fighting is a series of photos taken of long exposure to lights and then put to music. Over a thousand photos went into making that video. I wasn’t concerned with the quality of the photos at the time, I just needed a lot to match up with the beat of the music. After making that video I noticed that some of the photos looked pretty good. So, I decided to have a few of them printed up. They looked great, but I knew that I could do much better, and I really wanted them to be much larger.

Jazz HornJazz Horn

After researching the problem and trying many different methods I soon realized that it all came down to one thing. I was exceeding the limits of my equipment. There was just no way I was going to get the results I was looking for with the equipment I was currently using. So, I started shopping around for a proper camera that would give me the those results. Wow, talk about sticker shock. The 50 Mega-pixel and higher camera’s just blew me away. The next best thing I found was a 36 Mega-pixel Nikon, but even that was out of my reach. The dream had just about died for me at that point. And, so I just went on with life making dumb videos for YouTube. Until one day I heard about KickStarter. What? You mean to tell me that other people would be interested enough in what I’m doing to help. Then I saw all the other people KickStarter was helping and had already helped. So I thought, why not, it’s worth a try. Maybe my dream could come true.

I have a lot of good ideas for more of the Bendalight Arts, but was a little hesitant in going any further because of my somewhat limited equipment. So, here I am hoping that with your help my dreams can come true and I could share with the world all I have to offer.

Golden WormholeGolden Wormhole

(The images created in this project will only be available to Kickstarter backers and will not be offered to the general public. Making them limited editions).

Rewards will be made on demand and you can choose from a wide range of products that will have the Bendalight art on them.

The money’s will be split in half, with half the money going to pay for the cost of the rewards and the other half will be used for equipment.

International Shipping

We have heard a number of comments regarding the international shipping cost being too high. We estimated the international shipping cost based on a quote from our logistics partner. The Jackery Air comes with a premium design package which will be an ideal gift to your friends and family. The package adds extra weight to the final shipping package. In addition, custom declaration and clearance for lithium battery products will add time and cost in shipping the product. At this point, Kickstarter doesn’t allow us to make any change on the rewards. We understand the shipping cost to some countries, especially Canada and UK, of your other purchases may be lower than what we offer now.

We are extremely excited to know that you like the Jackery Air, hence we’d like to work with you to make this a reality. After the project is funded and if the final shipping cost to your place is lower than what we estimated, we will give a FREE premium car charger with 5V/1A dual USB 2.0 ports in addition to your reward. Meanwhile, we will process your reward as our top priority and get the Jackery Air shipped to you as fast as possible.

The Rise of the Portable Mobile Battery

We conducted market research early this year and collected data from our industrial partners about mobile device usage trends. We presented the infographics “The Rise of the Portable Mobile Battery” which detailed some of the findings. With bigger screens come bigger batteries which are not necessarily keep up with the modern phone’s power demands. To tackle this problem, more and more users acquire external batteries hoping to get that needed extra juice.

This infographic shows the history and trends of mobile batteries. Some of the interesting findings include:

  • 2005 is the year with the longest average mobile battery life with 50 hours.
  • 1995 and 2013 tie for the same average of mobile battery life with 28 hours.
  • When it comes to battery life, travelers have the least luck.
  • More than a third (38%) of smartphone users panic about running out of battery at least once a week.

And here’s the infographic highlighting these and some other facts…

Our Story

Since the beginning of this year, we have been working with a team of electrical engineers and product experts to bring the product vision of the Jackery Air into reality. We have successfully made a number of prototype units of the Jackery Air and validated the viability of our product vision: making the world’s thinnest high-capacity portable mobile charger. The prototype units have passed a number of safety and energy efficiency tests and we are one step away from the production.

The first prototype of the smart control circuitThe first prototype of the smart control circuit

In product design process, we have overcame a number of engineering challenges in order to make the Jackery Air the thinnest portable mobile charger in the world. To ensure the battery safety and to meet the energy efficiency standards, we have designed a smart control circuit to fit into the ultra-thin case. The smart control circuit is equipped with our advanced power lock technology which allows the product to hold its charge for six months when not in use.

Smart Control Circuit with Advanced Power Lock TechnologySmart Control Circuit with Advanced Power Lock Technology

Another engineering challenge is making the ultra-thin aluminum case for the Jackery Air. Due to the ultra-thin design, the previous production techniques didn’t meet the requirements for this product. It took us more than six weeks working with a case production expert to get a prototype that met our requirements. We adopted the same molding process used by Apple and successfully made a thin aluminum case for theJackery Air.

Most of the current portable mobile chargers are made with cheap plastics with the standard black color. Jackery Air is lightweight with a stylish design. The sleek design won’t be possible without using the premium color coating process. We require the manufacturer to apply the color coating to the full body of the case evenly in order to optimize the efficiency of heat dissipation during charging.

We hold the highest standards in making the Jackery Air and have thought about every detail of the product, safety, the user experience, and the packaging. Now, we are just one step away from bringing the Jackery Air into a reality.

Help us make THE GRACE OF JAKE

by Chris Hicky

From crop dusters to gospel churches, Grammy nominated DIR Chris Hicky’s debut feature captures the heart & soul of the Arkansas delta.

“I was seldom able to see an opportunity until it had ceased to be one.” Mark Twain

Delta SunsetDelta Sunset

Grammy nominated music video and commercial director Chris Hicky is set to helm his debut feature film, The Grace of Jake. Written by Hicky, this delicious tale takes place in the Arkansas delta. It’s here amidst crop dusters and gospel churches where the story unfolds as wayward musician JAKE HAYES confronts a father he has never met. It’s here in the middle of nowhere where Jake finds everything- life, love and a gospel record contract. This is a small movie by Hollywood definition, but our heart is big. So are our aspirations for this project.

Our goal is to film on location in Arkansas this September with a premier at a major film festival such as Sundance, South By Southwest, or Cannes. From there, we hope for a world-wide theatrical release thus bringing The Grace of Jake to a theater near you. A lot has to happen between now and then, and it all starts with you.

“This movie is the culmination of every good thing that has been a part of my life- family, movies, music, spirituality, farming, literature, and grace. I am so excited to be able to come home and direct my first feature film. I cannot wait to share with you all this world, these characters, this story.” – Hicky

One of our main locations. A rural Gospel church. One of our main locations. A rural Gospel church.

Fresh out of prison, drifter musician JAKE HAYES (38) steals a car and says goodbye to California. His destination is Palestine, Arkansas, population 678. It’s here amidst the cotton fields and gravel roads where his father HENRY HAYES lives and works as a crop duster pilot. Jake has never met his father, but holds him responsible for all of life’s troubles- failure, jail, the death of his mother. Jake travels to the mid-south with the intention of revenge. However, once he gets to this small town, big things start to happen. It’s here amidst nothing that he finds everything – life, love, and a gospel record contract. The Grace of Jake is a movie about people, the characters just as important as the location. Jake soon becomes part of a colorful ensemble cast that is as authentic and soulful as it gets. And the situation he finds himself in are ripe with both opportunity and trouble. He sings at a gospel church, gets mixed up in a love triangle, records an album in a morgue, and learns to shoo skeet. And through it all Jake learns his momma may not have been quite so innocent. Seems as if she too had her own bit of trouble in the very same time years and years ago. This indigenous musical movie has the heart and feel of a foreign film, it’s country of origin just happens to be the Arkansas delta.

Character driven movies such as The Grace of Jake are often audience favorites. Void of any computer crafted effects, big explosions, or million dollar ad campaigns, these independent films tend to be the ones that leave lasting impressions. It’s hard to raise industry money for such projects though as the “suits” that write the checks seem to prefer the computer generated drama, the big expensive explosions, and the product placement. The Grace of Jake is not the kind of movie Hollywood studios will finance. We need your help so that heartfelt projects like ours don’t fall through the cracks.

Yes we have an amazing script, yes we have incredible talent attached to the project, and yes we are super passionate about this story. However, that is not enough. We need you. We cannot do this alone. This is the kind of movie that requires creative financing. This is the kind of movie that comes together only because enough people believe in it and the team behind it. This is the kind of movie you watch and wonder why more movies are not as honest and life-affirming!

Your contribution today is the only reason we will be able to move forward with this project. If you love movies, or if you love art, or if you love the south, or if you love blues and gospel music, or if you just love giving money to people who love entertaining others, this is the project for you! Our main goal is to make a movie that makes people feel good about life, to bring a sense of “anything is possible” into the daily grind. Some call it escapism, we call it a great movie. So please help us make THE GRACE OF JAKE.

Chris Hicky at work on set.Chris Hicky at work on set.

CHRIS HICKY is a writer/director living in Los Angeles, California. An Arkansas native, Chris has grown up with a camera in hand. His grandfather introduced him to photography which soon led to a love of the cinema. Making movies has been Chris’ dream as far back as he can remember. Chris has made quite a name for himself in the music video and commercial world. He’s been Grammy nominated, has won various directing awards, and has a client list that includes Keith Urban, Nicole Kidman, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Carrie Underwood, and Lady Antebellum just to name a few. Chris has been directing for over a decade now and feels it is time to devote his talents to his true love- feature length films. The Grace of Jake is his passion project. He’s been working on the script for years now, has directed a few short films along the way (along with dozens of music and commercial projects), and feels that the time is right for The Grace of Jake.

JAKE LA BOTZ is a true American musical icon. Jake grew up in Chicago where he learned to sing and play the blues from some of the legends of the genre- David ‘Honeyboy’ Edwards, Homesick James, and Maxwell Street Jimmy Davis. Jake moved to Los Angeles, and his boyish looks and gravelly sound proved to be a unique draw. He has become a legend in his own time thanks to his authentic blues sound and soul. Jake has a world wide fan base that includes celebrities, dignitaries, fans, and hard core music lovers. Jake’s music can be heard in both film and television. To top it off, Jake is one heck of an actor. He’s been in movies such as Ghost World, Animal Factory, and On The Road, holding his own right alongside some of Hollywood’s most respected stars. Jake also plays the lead in the stage musical “Ghost Brothers of Darkland County” written by Stephen King and John Mellencamp with musical direction by T-Bone Burnett. Jake of course is slated to play JAKE in The Grace of Jake. His music will of course be the heart of the soundtrack.

Jake La BotzJake La Botz

The really cool thing about Kickstarter is that you get rewards for your donations! And we have put together some really fun categories depending upon your level of contribution. From a personal concert by Jake La Botz to a sweet trucker cap, from a director-for-the-day experience to an autographed copy of the script, we have lots of great stuff to choose from. You can also contribute without receiving any reward, but we suggest taking the prize! And please remember, even if you only give us $1 we could not make this movie without you. Our reward prizes may escalate in relation to value, but our appreciation is the same across the board!

Men's and Women's Tees!Men’s and Women’s Tees!

Ok, so why 125k?

We’ve crunched the numbers and this is the bare bones amount we need to shoot and edit the movie. Could we use more? Of course, but this is the figure we need to go into production and come away with a completed project we are proud of. Chris has been directing for over a decade now and has learned the importance of running an effective set on limited budgets. He’s made an art out of shooting high end projects for pennies on the dollar. To survive as a director in this competitive creative world a director has to be able to deliver the “wow” factor on time and on or under budget. Chris has proven himself more than capable of doing so time and again. The Grace of Jake will be his chance to put all he has learned to work towards the goal of making this small movie look like a million bucks!

To help him do just that, our plan is to hire the best cast and crew our budget allows. A movie is only as good as it’s players, and Chris has developed amazing team relationships with some of the industry’s top craftspeople. For his feature debut you better believe Chris is going to work with the most talented peeps he can convince to come on board. Good thing is, it has not been that hard to convince. Everyone loves the script, especially the actors we have approached.

100 percent of the money we raise on Kickstarter will go into the movie. We (Chris and Jake) are not paying ourselves a dime. In fact we’re putting our own money into the project as well. For us, being a part of this project is our reward. We want to put every dollar we can onto the screen. From travel and lodging, to gear rental and insurance, to catering and craft service, to airplane fuel and props, to casting and crew – every dollar we raise goes right back into our film.

We set the mark at 125k, but if we can reach double that then all the better. In the world of making movies you work with what you have. If you have a dollar then you put that dollar to work, stretch it, pull it, make it last. If you have two dollars, well you work just as hard, stretch and pull just as much to make it work.

Every dollar over our funding goal just means we get a little more production value, a little more breathing room. One of our first bonus expenditures would be an extra day or two of shooting. As of now we are budgeted for 18 days of filming- 18 days to cover 100 pages of script. That’s not a lot of time. Typical bigger budget films have 2-3 month long shoots for those same 100 pages. Another bonus expenditure would be to pay more money to the local people helping us out- the owner’s of the locations we will film in, the stunt pilots we will use, the caterers bringing us hot meals, etc. This project is going to bring in some money to the local economies. We’d like to bring more. We’d like to help out those helping us as much as we’re able 🙂

If you have read this far, you truly are one of us. We cannot thank you enough for your help and support. Without each and every one of you The Grace of Jake would not see the light of day. Thank you for helping us make THE GRACE OF JAKE . . .

Tat Patch: The tattoo for your jeans! #kickstarter #fashion #design

18 Jun

Tat Patch: The tattoo for your jeans!

Tat Patch is a comfy, stylish fabric “tattoo” that peeks through your ripped jeans. The hole looks cool…Tat Patch makes it cooler!

We’ve created a line of easy-to-apply patches that breathe new life into your holey jeans! Our designs are printed on comfortable, flexible sweatshirt fabric. We call Tat Patch “The Tattoo for your jeans” because we can print just about any high resolution design and you can put the Tat Patch wherever you want – just like a tattoo.

At the moment we have about 40 designs…but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. We are actively searching for cool designs – if you’ve got some ideas, we’d like to see them! (We are adding new patterns, artist-created patches and limited editions monthly!)

Kids love them. Teens think they’re cool. Adults think they’re practical. Hey, we’re not going to be picky…anyone can wear a Tat Patch.

This Tat Patch was designed by Adam Turman, an internationally-recognized poster artist from the Minneapolis area. Check out his fantastic poster art at He has created this Bicycle Riding Devil Tat Patch exclusively for our Kickstarter Backers, plus we’ve added a signed, frame print of the same image at the $120 premium (see right)!

This Tat Patch was designed by The Pyro Painter, Michael Stewart. You can see more of his paintings at You can get a signed, framed canvas print of this image plus his exclusive Tat Patch in the $120 category (at right).

What’s so great about Tat Patches?

Easy to apply – there’s no ironing or sewing…a kid could do it. It’s the discovery of this unique dryer-activated adhesive that makes buying and applying a Tat Patch so accessible for anyone.

Comfortable – made from sweatshirt fabric, they’re more comfortable than material they cover.

Flexible – Sweatshirt material is a tremendously flexible fabric…perfect for knees, elbows and butts.

Practical – Holes suck…Tat Patches not only plug them, they keep you warm in the winter and they stop holes from getting any bigger.

Affordable – at $9 per patch, anyone can afford to be cool.

Made in the USA– See our FAQ,

How do Tat Patches Work?

Easy. There’s no ironing, no sewing…the adhesive is heat activated in your clothes dryer. See the application instructions below:

Pre-Wash your garment WITHOUT fabric softeners

Turn garment inside out – smooth the material

Peel off paper backing from Tat Patch (try not to touch the adhesive)

Place your Tat Patch FACE DOWN onto the garment, covering the hole

Rub or press with FIRM PRESSURE all around the edge of the patch

Tumble dry (HIGH HEAT) for 15 minutes (with nothing else in the dryer)

Remove from dryer and press with FIRM PRESSURE again to ensure a tight bond

Let your garment cool for about 30 minutes…then Be Cool!

Who wears Tat Patches?

Tat Patch targets today’s most fashion-conscious demographic; men and women, girls and boys 12-24. But just as important are mothers with kids under 12 (currently, mothers account for the vast majority of patch sales because their children wear through clothing faster than any other demographic). For all consumers, Tat Patch offers a chic and comfortable new accessory that puts traditional patches to shame.

Why Kickstarter?

We need to get the word out that distressed-jeans wearers have options. Our initial plan has four phases:

1. Advertise on Facebook, Instagram…anywhere on the web where fashion meets function!

2. Buy Adwords. Phrases such as “How to patch jeans” will send lots of hits to our site.

3. To stay on trend, Tat Patch will invite a wide variety of artists – graphic designers, fashion designers, tattoo artists, cartoonists, graffiti artists, etc. – to design for the Tat Patch “palette.” Our quarterly artist contests will push thousands of potential buyers to our website to vote on their favorite designs, and hopefully buy a patch or two while they’re at it.

4. Once we have an established clientele online, we intend to approach specialty retailers like Pac Sun, Zumiez and The Buckle (to name a few) to handle our line.

The Kickback: Debut Album ‘Sorry All Over The Place’ #kickstarter

The Kickback: Debut Album ‘Sorry All Over The Place’

After two EPs and a handful of singles, The Kickback is ready to record their debut album!

Sorry All Over The Place is a collection of songs about being terrified of dying, but even more scared of not living. But, you know. Really danceable.

Hi. I’m Billy. The Kickback started in my Criminal Justice book (the name was in a blurb about Enron. Believe it or not, things didn’t turn out so great for those guys) at the University of South Dakota and has since claimed my brother Danny, Washington D.C.-native Eamonn, and Mexico-born Jonny. All I’ve ever wanted to do is make an album of music I was proud to put into the world. All I’ve ever wanted to do is to make recordings that would define moments of your life. All I’ve ever wanted to do is to be your everything, all the time, and without precedent or competition. I want to make a record to make popes (multiple) weep, to make wingless animals fly, and make Michael Keaton notice us and decide to star in all of our music videos for the rest of our lives. And it’s time for us to try.

I can’t actually explain why this means so much to me the same way I can’t explain why “Walk Away Renee” by Left Banke reduced me to tears while riding in a van with my mom around age 7. I understood that after losing a girlfriend in the third grade, I should call the Sioux Falls, SD oldies station and request “Leader of the Pack” by the Shangri-Las and stay up until 10 p.m. (on a school night for God’s sakes) waiting to tape the song on my boombox. I understood that “December, 1963 (Oh What a Night)” by the Four Seasons was probably the greatest song ever written (my 10-year-old Christmas proclamation of 1996). Without music, my sorry life isn’t worth the skin it’s printed on (try shouting that at your wife in the middle of an argument about the volume of The Muppet Movie soundtrack in your apartment), and I want to make a record that will make someone feel the same. I want you to hear our record and feel hope/hopeless/doubtful/stupefied/rejected/rewarded/FULL OF EVERYTHING THAT HAS EVER BEEN A FEELING. This seems to be the best way to make that happen.

It ruined Danny and me fairly early on.It ruined Danny and me fairly early on.

We’ve put recordings into the world. Ask a guy in this band how he feels about them.

Please don’t. It’s a touchy subject.

We’ve put out a couple EPs and a few singles, all with budgetary guns pressed so hard to our heads that the inevitable outcome sounded rushed, lifeless, and like the budgetary gun was used instead to shoot ourselves in the foot (to get the most mileage out of a useless metaphor). We’ve decided to do it right, despite how bloated the number may appear to you or how selfish and unnecessary a Kickstarter may seem when there are so many problems to fix in the world. This isn’t a humanitarian effort unless you count the mental health of four frustrated boys in Chicago. If you don’t think we won’t hate ourselves for every minute of this campaign, then boy you didn’t grow up Catholic or Jewish (we’ve got a healthy mix). But if it’s between continually putting out records we don’t believe in and putting out nothing at all, at this point we’re ready to defer to the latter. But just once, we want to do this right. Make a record as God intended.

But we don’t have a label or rich uncles. My desire to make music gets me out of bed in the morning and keeps me from sleeping at night, but wishes and hopes make not a pope weep from the new Kickback record he just heard on his solid gold pope turntable. The pope only weeps if we can afford to do this.

After pooling our collective money, we find ourselves about 16k shy of our goal. Your contribution will help pay for the engineering, the production, the mastering, the PR (eye-roll, yeah, but we have to if we want people to hear it), the packaging, and the distribution of the record. Best case scenario: A label decides to put it out and people are able to hear it all over the world. Worst case scenario: we put it on the Internet and people are able to hear it all over the world. We want to ensure that start-to-finish, what you wind up hearing is the best thing we can offer.

Hey, it's Jim Eno!Hey, it’s Jim Eno!

When trying to bring the world to its knees with ecstasy (the emotion), it’s nice to have some help. When we found out that Jim Eno from Spoon (and a bunch of awesome records he’s produced and engineered) liked our demos and was into making our album, I went straight back to age 7 in the car with Mom. One of my heroes wants to help make our album. The one we’re trying to do right. Think of something you love. [Actually do this. Pause for a second, you speed-reading fiend] Now think of the person you think does it as well as it can possibly be done. [Again, give it a sec, Marion Jones] Now imagine them telling you they’d like to help you make something. There’s too many vague pronouns for that to make much sense, but sweet Mary Higgins Clark, maybe you can understand my excitement.

We hope some of the perks we’ve put together might motivate you to help us out, but frankly, you know it doesn’t really cover the cost of your contribution. Please know you’ll be giving life to something that we’ve been trying to achieve since I started putting songs into a Tascam Portastudio cassette recorder. This record isn’t just about us having a group of songs that we’re confident about or working with people that seem to get what we’re trying to do; those situations come and go. We want to make a record that does something to you. It makes you hate your in-laws or pity your life choices or love your neighbor or hug a landlord. If these things we’ve made can’t make you breathe heavy for a minute, we’ll have failed. And this means too much to us to fail.

Thank you for reading this. Thank you for maybe contributing or at least not publicly calling us names. We can’t stop this music thing because it’s a sickness. It doesn’t relent and it doesn’t forgive, but it’s what gives us life. I hope you have something you love as much as we love this. It makes the world a better place. It makes life okay even when you’re openly begging for money. Let’s make some popes cry.

How @KinshipMarketin has marketed over 100 #Crowdfunding Projects!

1 Jun

Kinship Marketing has now marketed over 100 successfully funded Kickstarter projects that range from a few hundred dollars to over a hundred thousand. We are a company that is dedicated to helping the independent creator fund their dreams and I guarantee you won’t find our level of marketing anywhere else for anywhere near our prices.

Kinship Marketing has developed intense, specialized marketing campaigns that were created just for Kickstarter projects. We apply 75% of whatever you pay us to other paid advertising services that we manage daily. Ensuring your project receives the highest amount of targeted traffic as possible. In addition, your project will be seen on over 60 crowdfunding websites that we also market daily. Each of these websites receives anywhere from a few hundred visitors to over six thousands visitors a day. Kinship Marketing also uses several forums of social media to drive constant, targeted traffic to your project.

We charge $50 a week, or $200 a Kickstarter, for our services but we are happy to accommodate each customer for their specific needs. Kinship is run by a small group of marketing experts that started this type of marketing platform because of their desire to help the independent creator fund their goals. It is what drives us everyday to do whatever we can to ensure each Kickstarter project we market reaches its goal.

While we can not guarantee that your project will be funded, when using our services we can guarantee that 10s of thousands of people will see your Kickstarter. There is also another aspect of our marketing that no other marketing company or paid advertising service can offer.

– If your project doesn’t reach its funding goal we will market the re-launch of your Kickstarter for half price.

– If the re-launch isn’t successful we’ll market the third attempt for free. Meaning, we will pay for all of the costs involved. The reason we do this is because our marketing is highly effective and we have yet to have a project not be funded on the re-launch. So far, more than 95% of the Kickstarters we market are funded on the first project launch!

When you use Kinship Marketing, you’re not simply hiring a marketing company. You’re hiring a small team of marketing ninjas that fight everyday to ensure your funding goals are met. Please visit our website and fill out the forum at the bottom. We’ll respond within 24 hours and will begin working right away on making sure your Kickstarter goal is reached and surpassed.

One more thing- If you don’t have the money to market your Kickstarter please contact us anyway. We’re are happy to give free advice and help out however we can. Kinship also strongly believes in making the world a better place so if you’re working with a non-profit or charity please contact us for free marketing help. We will never charge a non-profit for marketing and it is a service we offer 100% for free because we feel it’s the right thing to do.

Please visit our site and fill out the simple forum at the bottom of the page

Thank you for your time and we look forward to getting your Kickstarter funded.
